Whatever You Do

Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [greatest] reward. It is the Lord Christ whom you [actually] serve.”

Colossians 3:23-24 AMP

One thing I cannot be called is lazy. It’s just not a word that describes me. I am an all in, push hard, work hard, go full bore kind of girl. Part of it is nature – my parents are both very hard workers. But part of it – maybe the greater part – is conviction. I believe it’s Biblical to be a hard worker, and I believe that your work ethic is a testimony to others.

Paul says whatever you do – from the mundane things at home like cooking and cleaning to the big project at work, we should put in our very best effort, even and especially if no one sees it, because G-d sees and He rewards. And, ultimately, I serve Him in everything I do, not man.

When I caught the vision of this verse and applied the principle to everything I put my hand to, it made a big difference. Most of what we do on a day to day basis isn’t glamorous. It’s mundane and often it seems pointless. But if we can shift our perspective that we are actually serving the Lord in everything we do, the things that seem mundane and unimportant suddenly take on a new meaning and value – not because the task is suddenly glamorous, but because the One we serve is worthy.

Beloved, may we not lose heart today. All those little things matter. They are Kingdom currency. We are honoring Him through our engagement. Whatever you do today, do it well.

Father – thank You for Your goodness in my life. Thank You for how You meet me and speak to me day after day. You are good and You keep doing good. Your leadership in my life is perfect and You can be trusted. Amen.
