“Then the servants of the king of Syria said to him, “Their gods are gods of the hills. Therefore they were stronger than we; but if we fight against them in the plain, surely we will be stronger than they…Then a man of God came and spoke to the king of Israel, and said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Because the Syrians have said, “The Lord is God of the hills, but He is not God of the valleys,” therefore I will deliver all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am the Lord.’ ””
I Kings 20:23, 28 NKJV
I love a good underdog story – and I love when G-d shows up and shows off. That’s what happened once again with the Israelites. They were outnumbered and outmaneuvered – yet G-d showed up and for the sake of His name, He led them in victory.
How often have I been at the end of my rope, overwhelmed and outmaneuvered? How often has He been the one to secure the victory for me? Do I always recognize it? There are marker moments I can point to – barely missing a head on collision in Dallas, healed at 2, rescued from abuse, and so much more. The times I find myself outnumbered, overwhelmed and outmaneuvered is when He shows up the brightest. He loves to be the hero. He loves to be my hero – and yours.
Today, if you’re like me, a tad overwhelmed, facing things stronger than ourselves, may we find peace to know that He is in the business of victory. He wins in the end. He will come through for us. He will show up and show off His power. All because He is just that good.
Father – thank You for Your presence in my life. Thank You for your kindness to me. Thank You for how You’ve rescued me over and over. Thank You for healing and restoring me. You are good and You keep doing good. Your leadership in my life is perfect and You can be trusted. Amen.
