Yet will I trust …

“Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: But I will maintain mine own ways before him.”

‭‭Job‬ ‭13:15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

When bad things happen, I often jump to blame – surely someone did something wrong which allowed this to happen. Surely it’s someone’s fault because bad things don’t happen to good people who follow G-d!

WRONG.

In beginning of Job, G-d gave Satan permission- not once, but twice, to test Job.

G-d did not cause the bad things to happen to Job – but He did allow it so that He, G-d, would be glorified.

The reality is this: when we draw close to G-d and are in His shadow (Psalms 91), nothing can come close to us the He is not aware of or does not permit. Therefore – if He allows something in my life – good and bad – I can be at peace because He can be trusted. While there are times that difficulties in our lives are a result of our own sin or wrong choices, there are also times G-d allows us to be tested so that our faith can be made whole (James 1:2-4)

In Hebrew, the word for the phrase  “yet I will trust” is yahal and means to tarry, to expect, or to wait with expectant hope. Because Job had a relationship with G-d, he trusted Him – even in death.

May we be inspired to draw closer to Him so that we may be found trusting in Him no matter what comes to us or our children. Only if we know the way are we able to show the way to those who follow us. Little eyes are watching and ears are listening to see if we mean what we say: G-d is good, His leadership is perfect in my life, and He can be trusted.

Father – I’ve openly questioned you and doubted you. Please forgive me where I’ve caused doubt in my children or others by my words. Cause a crop failure in their hearts. I declare that Your leadership is perfect in my life. You know what I’m facing and the fear that is knocking at my hearts door. I say today: soul – you will trust in Him alone. Strengthen my spirit today. Amen.
