“It will also come about in that day that the root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples. The nations will seek for Him, and His resting place will be glorious.”
Isaiah 11:10 TLV
He – the Great and Glorious One- stands as a banner. The KJV says He will stand as an ensign for all people. The image is a powerful one.
For an ensign – Hebrew: nēs – a standard or rallying point; an ensign or signal; something lifted high – a sail.
Banners mark property lines and construction zones. Banners led troops into battle – running ahead to show the way. Banners were signs of victory. White banners were waved in defeat.
Alathia is passionate about many things – especially the American and Texas flags. She’s climbed trees to rescue them and purchased replacements with her own money for businesses with shredded, faded flags in terrible disrepair. When we drive around, it’s often the first thing she notices about a company – the state of their flag or the lack there of. Sometimes obstacles block her view but she always finds them. The flags mean something to her.
Likewise, His “ensign” – His banner – stands before us. Do I value Him the way my daughter values the flags in our state? She cares about the state of the flag – that it is without tears and is not faded. Do I guard His presence that way or is my life shredding the Truth about who He really is? When I can’t see Him, when His ensign is blocked from view, do I press forward, lean in, and look to Him the way my daughter presses her nose to the glass and looks upward as she seeks the Stars and Stripes? I hope so. I want to.
The root of Jesse – Yeshua – stands as a victor and warrior for all people. He serves as a rallying point where His people can gather in unity. He is lifted high so we can see and follow Him. I might lose sight at times as distractions and worries cloud my view but still He stands, strong and true, leading me on.
And, He wins in the end.
Father – thank You for how you use my children to teach me. Thank You for Your Word and grace. Thank You for leading me. You are good and You keep doing good. Your leadership in my life is perfect and You can be trusted. Amen.
