“The Lord graciously remembered and visited Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did {accomplished} for her as He had promised. So Sarah conceived and gave birth to a son for Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time of which God had spoken to him.”
I have a list of things I’ve been waiting on G-d to accomplish – things He’s promised in His Word, things He’s spoken to our hearts, desires deep within me I believe are from Him – and it’s easy to become weary in the waiting, to be tempted to give up.
I think about Sarah and Abraham and how long they waited for a child. If you consider the culture, it’s safe to assume they were married well before 20. If Abraham was 100 when Isaac was born, that means they waited at least 80 years to bear a child of their own – to fulfill a desire of their hearts.
But G-d – at the appointed time, when the purposes of G-d and the timing of G-d aligned, there was a suddenly of G-d for Abraham and Sarah when Adonai – the Eternal One – graciously remembered Sarah, visited her, and accomplished all that He promised He would.
This passage encourages me deeply to hold on, press in, and not give up. When it’s time, He will accomplish all that He promised He would. He is positioning and preparing me to carry the promises He’s put in my heart. He’s also positioning and preparing my children to fulfill His will in their lives – His plan, His promise, His time – not mine – so I can stop worrying and trying to control things. He is good. His leadership in my life is perfect and He can be trusted.
Father – forgive me for trying to control and manipulate timing of things and situations. Help me to trust You, Your timing, and Your perfect plan for myself and my family. Graciously remember and gracious visit me in Your perfect time.
