Every single step

“Does He not see my ways, And count all my steps? … Let me be weighed on honest scales, That God may know my integrity.”

‭‭Job‬ ‭31:4, 6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Have you ever tried to count your steps? It’s not the easiest thing to do! Thank goodness for smart watches! Some days my watch tracks 3,000 and other days 21,000 – the amount of steps I take on any given day varies greatly and would be impossible to keep up with if I didn’t have a smart device.

Yet – He sees all of my ways and counts all of my steps – every single one! I know, I know – it may not be “literal” numbers – but, it might be! After all He does know the number of hairs on our head and is aware of every sparrow that falls from the sky (Luke 12:7 and Matthew 10:29). Therefore it’s not impossible that He knows our steps too!

Lately I’ve been meditating on the two distinct yet related thoughts.

First – G-d as my shepherd- Psalms 23. A shepherd protects, positions, and provides for his sheep. He walks among them. When they are in danger, he moves them to safety. When one is lost, he finds it and restores it to the fold. He gathers them at night. He leads them to water and to food.

Second – the wings of G-d as my covering – Psalms 91. When we draw close to G-d through prayer, worship, reading the Word, communion, and meditating on Him, we come up under the shadow of His wings and nothing can enter that shadow without His knowledge or consent.

He sees and He knows every single thing that affects me. He sees and He knows the pain I’m feeling from rejection. He sees and He knows the fear and insecurity I feel in some areas. He knows and He sees every single thing in my life. Nothing comes close to me that He didn’t permit or is not aware of. He is not surprised. He’s waiting and He’s watching me. He’s counting my steps. He’s paying close attention. And, He knows how it will end. Therefore – I can rest in His shadow knowing that His leadership in my life is perfect and He can be trusted.

As a mom and leader, my tribe is watching to see how I will respond in both times of turbulence and of favor. May the peace of G-d I find in His shadow be the fruit they see in me.

Abba – You see what I’m facing. You’re not surprised. You have no fear of the future so why should I? Forgive me for my doubt and complaint. Cover me today with your grace and peace. Position me to be a blessing to those around me. You are good, Your leadership in my life is perfect, and I choose to trust You. Amen.
