“When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies. I never joined the people in their merry feasts. I sat alone because your hand was on me. I was filled with indignation at their sins.”
Jeremiah 15:16-17 NLT
I love to read a good book – specifically historical fiction. Give me a good book by Ann H Gabhart and I’ll devour it in one setting. I’ve lost many a Saturday to nothing but the written word.
Late last year I began to feel a stirring for the written Word of G-d like I’d never experienced before. A conviction welled up in me at the sheer amount of hours I spent reading nothing of value compared to the pages of the Bible who’s value is immeasurable. Some nations kill citizens who own it and others outlaw it. Why would they do that if it held no power?
Reading the Word in chronological order has opened my eyes to the beauty found within. Each day it’s as if I uncover a precious gem that was previously hidden from my understanding. As a follower of Yeshua, I should be interested in and committed to the instructions He left for me. I hold in my hands the Words spoken by Him and Words inspired by the Holy Spirit. I have multiple copies of His Word while many have none. Yet, I have over the years treated it carelessly and callously. May G-d forgive me. May He continue to give me a holy hunger for His Word. May He open His word to me today. May He give me wisdom and grace to receive Your Word – not just hear it but love it, live it, practice it. May Your Word be the joy and delight of my heart.
Father – thank You for Your Word. Help me to love You more. Open my eyes and my ears to the wonderful things You have to say to me. You are good and You keep doing good. Your leadership in my life is perfect and You can be trusted. Amen.
