“He is wise in heart and mighty in strength. Who has resisted Him and come out whole?”
Job 9:4
I’m reading through the Bible chronologically this year and so far I’m enjoying the format. I have to confess I didn’t know Job came so early!
The story of Job has always fascinated me – he lost EVERYTHING, he voiced lots of thoughts and opinions, engaged in heated debates with friends who came to comfort him, and somehow, he maintained a right perspective of G-d.
When we go through difficulties, it’s important that we maintain the right perspective of G-d. Our circumstances may change, we may be miserable, but He, “El”, the Almighty One, is still G-d. He’s still in charge. He’s still on the throne. He’s still good. And – as Corey Russell says, His – G-d’s – leadership in my life is perfect and He can be trusted.
Job had a close relationship with G-d well before sorrow and hardship struck. And, because Job knew G-d, he trusted Him and did not harden his heart.
Our friends, colleagues, and kids are listening. May what and how we speak about G-d be based on the truth of His Word and character and not our fickle hearts in the face of affliction, adversity, and blessing.
Father – forgive my fickle heart for not accepting adversity as well as blessings from you. You’re looking for a heart that is true and loyal to you – a heart unhardened and unoffended by the world. Give me grace and strength to keep and open heart towards You. You alone are wise in heart. You alone are mighty in strength. You are good and You do good. Your leadership in my life is perfect and You can be trusted. Amen.
