“And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.”
Revelation 22:17 NKJV
This is one of my favorite verses in the Bible and a prayer I have often prayed, especially when facing a situation that seems impossible. And through this past year, one of the surprises of reading through the Bible has been how G-d shows up every day. He has spoken to me every day! His presence has been with me each day. When I stop and think about the fact that He has come every day, I’m overcome!
As I reflect tonight on the end of 2022 and writing new goals for 2023, the cry of this verse rises in my spirit tonight: Come Lord Jesus, come – come comfort, come provide, come lead, come reign. Come into my plans. Come into my future. Come into my past. Because when He comes, He changes everything.
I’m also reminded of how I feel when someone is coming over, especially on a Friday. People that know us know we love Shabbat. We love it more when we have company – especially company that are experiencing it for the first time. We plan the meal carefully and Alathia gives extra attention to the challah. We set the table and straighten up. There’s also a sense of excitement and anticipation that fills each of us because we know someone is coming! That is how I should feel about Jesus – I should have that same eagerness and excitement. When I invite Him, He always says yes. When I make room for Him, He always comes.
As we embark on a New Year, may we encounter Him in a fresh, unexpected way. He desires to come beside us, right where we are, we only need to ask.
Father – thank You for how You speak day after day and how You come when we call. You are good and You keep doing good. Your leadership in my life is perfect and You can be trusted. Amen.
