“If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments and [obediently] do them, then I will give you rain in its season, and the land will yield her produce and the trees of the field bear their fruit. I will also grant peace in the land, so that you may lie down and there will be no one to make you afraid. … For I will turn toward you [with favor and regard] and make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will establish and confirm My covenant with you.”
Leviticus 26:3-4, 6, 9 AMP
I love this chapter! After re-reading it a few times, a thought came to me: the measure of peace I experience is proportionate to my level of obedience. He promises me a peaceful portion IF I heed His voice and walk in His ways.
The word used in this verse for peace is shaw-lome’ or shâlôm- the same word used in the sabbath greeting “Shabbat Shalom”. In addition to peace, the word means a place of safety, to have good health, and to be whole.
True peace is found in a relationship with G-d. When we disobey Him, we open doors in our hearts and minds through which peace escapes. Repentance closes the door, and His presence restores the peace.
Father – show me where I have open doors. Forgive me for doubt and fear. Heal my painful memories and give me Your peace. You are good. Your leadership in my life is perfect and You can be trusted. Amen.
