“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars.””
II Chronicles 16:9 NKJV
Have you ever walked into a crowded room and scanned through the crowds, looking for someone specific, only to not see them until they get your attention? No? Just me? Cool. Happens me to me often, and this week at a large conference, I’m reminded that I often LOOK at things but I don’t really SEE people.
Thank goodness He is not like me. His eyes “Run to and fro”: šûṭ – His eyes go eagerly or quickly to and fro – all across the earth seeking one whom is šālēm toward Him – one who is in covenant relationship with Him–one who is His friend.
The eyes of the Lord are literally scanning the earth right now as I’m writing this and as you are reading this. He’s looking for you and at you. He’s waiting for us to make eye contact with Him. And when He catches our attention and affection – truly catches us- then all it takes is just one glimpse to change things.
Loyalty looks like loving what He loves. Friendship looks like enjoying the things He enjoys. We cannot be in covenant with Him and in covenant with the world. It’s either Him or it’s the enemy. We have to choose.
As the lyrics go: when You walk into the room, everything changes. And when we lock eyes with Him – we are changed, we are strengthened, and we are whole. When He comes looking- may His eyes find mine. May He find me eagerly searching for Him alone. I pray I am not too distracted to notice Him when He comes.
Father – thank You for Your Word and Your truth. Your Word is rich and how You love me is kind. You are good and You keep doing good. Your leadership in my life is perfect and You can be trusted. Amen.
