“Like the coolness of snow at harvest time is a faithful messenger to those who send him for he refreshes his master’s soul.”
Proverbs 25:13 TLV
In my day to day work life, I rarely have the opportunity to speak openly about what I believe – but when asked, I feel compelled to answer. Several times over the last 10 years in a management role, people have asked, but few have asked as plainly as I was approached last week.
Over dinner a colleague asked me what I believed so I explained to her that I have a relationship with Jesus Christ. She responded, “A Christian then?” And I replied yes though I don’t think the word really captures my heart as it’s lost meaning over the years. She then said something that I’ve been pondering for days: “I’ve always been fascinated by people of deep faith which I hear and see in your words and actions.” After some additional questions, we changed topics but her statement remained with me.
Today’s verse reminded me of her comment. As believers in and followers of Jesus, we should be like the messenger above that refreshes the soul of his master. Does my life bring good news to a hurting world? Do my words and actions refresh others? If not, it’s time to reevaluate what I’m doing and who I’m doing it for.
I never thought about it until this week but it’s something I would hope others see in me – a difference in my actions and my words when measured with the world’s standard. My life should create a curiosity in others. I long for that level of authenticity – that He can be seen in me and heard through me. May my life be a fragrance that makes others pause and draws them to Him.
Father – thank You for Your presence in my life. You’ve transformed and healed me. Help me to be a light to those around me – to love like You so they are drawn to You. You are good and You keep doing good. Your leadership in my life is perfect and You can be trusted.
