You Keep Doing Good

You are good and keep doing good— teach me Your decrees…It is good for me that I was afflicted, so that I may learn Your decrees.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭119:68, 71‬ ‭TLV‬‬

Psalms is rich and I never have to read far to find a verse that speaks to me.

I’ve been pondering this verse – meditating on it over and over today: “you are good and YOU KEEP DOING GOOD”.  That last part is wrecking my heart. Hisgoodness just doesn’t stop!

But – what does it mean to be good or to do good? Goodness seems so subjective, it’s definition dependent upon someone’s opinion, experience, or truth. We describe so many things as “good” – has the word lost its meaning?

I know people who would say G-d isn’t good. I’ve personally questioned it at times – mostly when I’m suffering. But the truth is – He is the only One who is truly good, and His goodness is independent of my actions or my feelings.

He is good. By His very nature – He is good. It’s easy to see as I read His Word. He is undeniably good, and He keeps doing good – in all and through all circumstances.

When I suffer, He’s good. When I experience plenty, He’s good. In illness and loneliness, He’s good. In fulfillment and connection, He’s good.

It’s taken me a long time to believe it deeply in my heart, to be convicted deep within my soul that He is good – truly good – and He can be trusted completely. By resting in His goodness, my soul finds peace because I know that no matter the outcome, no matter what happens, He is good, and He will keep doing good no matter what. In a world of chaos, He’s still good. It’s just who He is.

Father – thank You for Your Word and Your goodness to me. I don’t deserve it, but I receive it with gratitude. You are good. You keep doing good. Your leadership in my life is perfect and You can be trusted. Amen.
