For my own sake

‬‬ ““Be very resolute to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the Torah of Moses, so that you may not turn aside from it to the right or to the left…But cling to Adonai your G-d, as you have done to this day…For your own sake, therefore, be most mindful to love Adonai your God.”

‭‭Joshua‬ ‭23:6, 8, 11‬ ‭TLV‬‬

As I was reading this morning I was reminded of something that happened this weekend. Vance and I attended a rehearsal dinner and wedding ceremony for a dear friend’s daughter. The parking lot at the rehearsal dinner was a tad treacherous for anyone wearing heels such as me.

When we left that night, we left while it was still light outside and Vance carefully guided me across the lot as I clung to his arm. He pointed out places to step, choosing smooth places as often as possible, while I carefully watched where he was pointing so I could step in those areas. When I took my eyes off of the area he pointed out, I would stumble. I made it safe and sound – ankles in tact. Though I walked WAY slower than I normally would on any given day, that parking lot called for mindful, careful, and purposeful steps.

That’s the image G-d gave me today as I read and meditated on His Word. Just as Vance supported and guided me, G-d desires to support and guide me – if only I will slow down, pay attention, and listen carefully to Him, following His guidance and loving only Him. While the way may not be smooth, I can rest assured that He will guide me to my destination. It is for my sake and for my own good that He wants to lead me because He sees and knows what’s ahead and I do not.

Father – Thank You for Vance. From day one, You’ve used him to teach me about You and used him as an example of Your love. Help me to follow his guidance and Yours with mindful purpose and intention. Not looking aside to others, but fully clinging to and loving both You and him. You are good. Your leadership in my life is perfect and You can be trusted. Amen.
