“But appoint the Levites over the tabernacle (sanctuary) of the Testimony, and over all its furnishings and all things that belong to it. They shall carry the tabernacle [when traveling] and all its furnishings, and they shall take care of it and camp around it. …. The Levites shall be in charge of the tabernacle of the Testimony.””

Moving is something I can related to. 12 loves, 22 years of marriage. We’re practically pros! We’ve done it alone, used friends and family to help, and used professional movers – and one learned that hiring professionals is worth it – especially for the big stuff.

The Tabernacle was large and ornate. There were many components made of solid gold – one being the Mercy Seat where the physical presence of G-d dwelt in the Tent of Meeting. 

The Levites were professional movers of the presence of G-d. They were charged with packing up the articles, carrying them, then setting them up again. Essentially the Levites were protectors of the presence of G-d. 

As Believers, we are modern day Levites. We are “professional movers” of G-d’s presence. We carry His presence inside of us wherever we go, and wherever we stop to “set up camp”, His presence is established. At work, at home, in the store, at church, at the gym – anywhere we go, we carry His presence.  

It’s a good reminder that I am a mover of His presence. He’s always with me because the Holy Spirit dwells within me, and where ever I go, I’m never alone. He’s there to give me peace and wisdom. He’s there to protect me. He provides for and cares for me. I may not have to carry the physically heavy furnishings of the Tabernacle, but His presence is weighty and to be handled with care. May I be ever mindful of the Presence I carry within me. 

Father – thank You for dwelling in me! It’s humbling that You would choose ME as a dwelling place! Thank You! May I live and love worthy of You. You are good. Your leadership in my life is perfect and You can be trusted. Amen.
