“…that you may tell in the hearing of your son and your son’s son the mighty things I have done in Egypt, and My signs which I have done among them, that you may know that I am the Lord.””
Exodus 10:2 NKJV
“and that you may recount and explain in the hearing of your son, and your grandson, what I have done [repeatedly] to make a mockery of the Egyptians—My signs [of divine power] which I have done among them—so that you may know [without any doubt] and recognize [clearly] that I am the Lord.””
Exodus 10:2 AMP
Anyone who knows us well knows that more than anything we want our children to be worshippers of G-d and most of our decisions and actions are with that in mind. One of the intentional things we have done over the years to teach them about G-d has been to observe Shabbat and many of the Jewish feasts – not because we are Jewish, but because we love the G-d they do and we learn about Him through observing the feasts. And, Passover – as somber as it is- is my favorite next to weekly Shabbats.
Pharaoh and the Egyptians received plagues – maaggêphâh (divine judgements) from G-d but the Israelites received “ʼôwth” – signs and miracles, as pledges or attestations of divine presence.
Our deliverance may look different today than it did for the Israelites – but, He still delivers and He still performs miracles on our behalf. Just think about it. That closed door last year positioned you to receive a better opportunity yesterday – or tomorrow. Either way – His delays are not denials. His no is often a “not yet”.
As a mom, part of my responsibility is to share signs and wonders – to testify to His provision and goodness – so that they can get to know Him and His character. Psalms 78 says that one generation shall tell the next of the mighty deeds of G-d so that they (the next generation) would not be stubborn and stiff necked. (Marci’s summary).
From the beginning of time, family was part of G-d’s plan. He wants us to tell our children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and the almost-mines about Him. He wants us to testify of Him! It’s part of His plan!
Now isn’t the time to be silent. May we have courage and boldness be witnesses of G-d and His goodness to those around us. May our words and actions point others to Him. For their sake, I will not be silent. For their sake, I will tell the mighty things He has done.
Father – thank you! Thank you for family and for another opportunity. Forgive me for when I’ve complained about your delays and denials. Help me to see Your hand at work repositioning and preparing. You are good. Your leadership in my life is perfect and You can be trusted. Amen.
