Made for Man

“Then He said to them, “Shabbat was made for man, and not man for Shabbat. So the Son of Man is Lord even of Shabbat.””

‭‭Mark‬ ‭2:27-28‬ ‭TLV‬‬

How fun that this verse comes today, the first Shabbat following Yom Kippur. I’ve written many times about Shabbat and how it’s impacted our family. I’ll be forever grateful for Bonnie Wilks and her book that transformed us by unwrapping the Sabbath as a gift we could partake of.

I’m reminded today that Shabbat is a gift – not a ritual or religious act. I’ll admit at times it has become rote as we repeat the questions and prayers – but whether we “feel” like it or not, Shabbat always resets and refocuses us. He made it for us to enjoy. I want whatever He has for me, and since He made Shabbat, for me, pass the candles and light a match. He gives many good gifts, and Shabbat happens to be one of my favorites.

Father – thank You for Your Word and for Bonnie Wilks writing and teaching. Thank You for giving me the gift of Shabbat. Help me to see it as a gift and not an obligation. You are good and You keep doing good. Your leadership in my life is perfect and You can be trusted. Amen.
