For Such a Time

“For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?””

‭‭Esther‬ ‭4:14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I love the story of Esther so much, and Mordecai’s charge to her is one that resonates with me today.

Who knows if I came to Canton for such a time as this?

Who knows if I was promoted for such a time as this?

Who knows if I was given children for such a time as this?

Who knows if these words are for such a time as this?

I’ve spent far too long second guessing life decisions we’ve made along the way – whether we should have moved or not, bought a house or not, sold a house or not, quit a job or not, and more. But every time I lose myself in the wonderings, I eventually come to the same conclusion: who knows if I wasn’t sent for such a time?

Living a life of radical faith means leaning in and listening, then stepping out and going into the great unknown. As Joy Dawson said in a sermon preached once at Shady Grove Church, there are 3 simple steps to living a life of faith: 1. Do what G-d tells you to do. 2. Do the next thing G-d tells you to do. 3. And do the next thing.

It’s really that simple – listen, obey, repeat.

I can sit and wonder – or I can choose to thank Him for the friends I’ve loved, the places we’ve called home, and the miracles we’ve seen – all gifts given for such a time as this.

Father – thank You for how You’ve guided us these past 23 years. Continue to lead us in the path You have for us. You are good and You keep doing good. Your leadership in my life is perfect and You can be trusted. Amen.
