“In those days and in that time,” says the Lord, “…I will pardon those whom I preserve… Their Redeemer is strong; The Lord of hosts is His name. He will thoroughly plead their case, That He may give rest to the land, And disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.”
Jeremiah 50:20, 34 NKJV
As Jeremiah draws to a close, we are left with the a message of hope. G-d will certainly redeem His people. There will always be a remnant who remain – a people who persevered until the end and who experience His comfort, His forgiveness, and His restoration. Though destruction comes, wait for Him. Though we experience loss, hold on. Though the arrows hit their mark, stand. He will pardon those while He preserves.
Tonight I spent someone catching up with some loved ones. One theme in both conversations was the idea of posturing ourselves in a position of being covered and protected by G-d. Sometimes that looks and sounds like being silent – allowing Him to defend us – and sometimes that looks and sounds like drawing a boundary line in the proverbial sand that we will not cross. Whether He is calling us to a place of hiddenness or a place of standing firm, we can be assured that the Lord of Hosts is our great champion.
As a follower of the Way, my hope rests in the strength of my Redeemer – not what I can see with my eyes or “feel” within me. If He preserved His people, surely He is strong enough to redeem me. If I could just hold onto that image, I’d fret a lot less, laugh a lot more, and love a lot harder.
Father – thank You for Your Word and for Your conviction. Thank You that You fight for me. You are good and You keep doing good. Your leadership in my life is perfect and You can be trusted. Amen.
