“Thus says Adonai: “Stand in the roads and look. Ask for the ancient paths— where the good way is— and walk in it. Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We won’t walk in it.’”
Jeremiah 6:16 TLV
I used to listen to country music exclusively. I remember one song by the Judds about Grandpa. Part of the lyrics I still recall: “Grandpa, tell me about the good old days – sometimes it feels like the world’s gone crazy – Grandpa, take me back to yesterday, when the lines between right and wrong didn’t seem so hazy” (1986). That song might as well have been released today. Doesn’t it seem like things are crazy in the world around us? The sexualization of children, riots, altars to Molech for abortions, and the list goes on. The. World. Is. Crazy. And, it is destined to get worse.
As a follower of Christ, I have a choice every day. I stand at a crossroads – do I take the ancient path of righteousness, forgiveness, holiness, prayer, fasting, and love or do I go the opposite way? Will I love the Lord with all my heart and my neighbor as myself or will I walk in hate and disdain? The choice is mine.
Death gives the gift of perspective. Whether someone does suddenly or not, in the end, we all face the judgement seat, stripped of earthly titles and trappings. We will stand before Him and receive our just reward.
Following an ancient path isn’t an easy or popular road. It’s lonely and hard – I must die daily, hourly, sometimes moment by moment to self and choose His way – but, it is a good way in the end. It might not feel like it, but at the end of my life when I take my last breath, the hope of my salvation will be there to receive me. Today, I choose Him.
Father – thank You for Your Word and Your presence in my life. You are good and You keep doing good. Your leadership in my life is perfect and You can be trusted. Amen.
